Dr. Brad Saks

is co-owner of the North Shore Center for Weight Management. He is a clinical psychologist specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, pre- and post- bariatric surgery care, and weight management. He is board certified by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, the only accreditation agency for cognitive therapists. Dr. Saks is on faculty at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. In 2008, he will be teaching a series of workshops at the medical school on both behavioral counseling for lifestyle medicine and the assessment and treatment of eating disorders.

Dr. Saks is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association’s Divisions for Health Psychology and Addictive Behaviors, the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. Recently, he authored two chapters on the treatment of obesity in the American Medical Association's Roadmaps for Clinical Practice: Case Studies In Disease Prevention and Health Promotion—Assessment and Management of Adult Obesity: A Primer for Physicians.




Dr. Julie Friedman

is co-owner of the North Shore Center for Weight Management. She is a clinical psychologist whose specialties include cognitive-behavioral therapy, Night Eating Syndrome, Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, pre- and post- bariatric surgery care, and obesity and weight management. She is also an Assistant Professor at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Friedman is a member of the American Psychological Association, the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, and the Academy of Eating Disorders. She received her B.S. in Psychology from Northwestern University and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology. She completed a fellowship in sleep disorders and behavioral medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a two-year, post-doctoral fellowship in obesity at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Wellness Institute. In 2006, Dr. Friedman provided an invited address on Night Eating Syndrome at the annual meeting of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity. In 2008, she will be teaching a series of workshops on assessment and treatment for eating disorders at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.




Dr. Sarah Catanese

is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in weight loss for adults and children. Dr. Catanese completed her training at UCLA Medical Center and her fellowship at Harvard Medical School/Children's Hospital Boston. She is on the faculty of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and is on the medical staff of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Dr. Catanese specializes in using cognitive-behavioral therapy to help people bridge the gap between knowledge of what to do and action towards their goals. She has a special interest in helping children and teenagers achieve healthy eating behavior and weight loss.




Sheryl Gray, M.S., R.D., L.D.,

has been a registered dietician for over twenty years. Her specialties include medical nutrition therapy and weight management for patients with Type II diabetes. As founder and owner of Professional Nutrition Services, she is a recognized nutritional professional on the North Shore, working with multiple medical practices including the North Shore Center for Weight Management.

Ms. Gray received her B.S. and M.S. from the University of Arizona. She has been asked to present at numerous conferences and seminars, including giving the nutritional address at the contestant dinner preceding the Chicago Marathon. She has coauthored five nutritional publications and is a long-time member of the American Dietetic Association.




Chris Brodkin, MD

is board certified in internal medicine and trained at Cook County Hospital. He has published multiple scientific articles in peer reviewed publications. Dr. Brodkin enjoys treating diabetes, heart disease, gastrointestinal problems, high blood pressure, obesity, osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal problems and lung disorders.




Evan L. Lipkis, MD

is a board certified internist as well as a professor and author. He runs a Concierge practice called MD Special Care. He loves preventive medicine and his mission statement is to make a positive difference in each and everyone of his patients. He is a Northwestern Medical School graduate.




Sheree B. Lipkis, MD

has a special interest in preventive medicine and women’s health. She is a board certified internist who graduated from Northwestern Medical School, where she also completed her internship and residency. She is on staff at Glenbrook and Evanston Hospitals and is a clinical instructor of medicine at Northwestern University Medical School.




Susan Shapiro, MD

is a University of Illinois Medical School graduate. She completed her training at Evanston Hospital as Chief Resident. Dr. Shapiro is a caring physician who takes a special interest in preventive medicine.




Michael Unger, MD

graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, although he practices internal medicine exclusively. His clinical interests include preventive medicine, asthma, heart disease, diabetes, cholesterol, and minor skin surgical procedures. He is also president of Acts of Kindness Cabaret, a terrific charitable organization.




Donna Wittert, ANP, CNP

is an Adult Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes Educator. She has had over 25 years of experience working in health care with particular interests in geriatrics, diabetes, cholesterol, and hypertension.
